German courses for refugees in Brandenburg

What does the programme offer?

This programme helps asylum seekers and tolerated foreign nationals who have so far not been eligible to attend integration courses attend such courses. They are qualifying German courses which conclude with an officially recognised level A2/B1 language test. To make people more employable, work-related ESF-BAMF courses can be attended after the language course.

Who can take part in the programme?

  • Persons with a temporary resident permit under § 55 AsylVfG
  • Tolerated foreign nationals under § 60a AufenthG
  • Persons with a residence permit under § 23.1 and § 25.5 AufenthG

Children, young people and young adults who are still attending school cannot take part.

What is the language proficiency level of the course?

The language course consists of up to 600 hours (6 modules of 100 hours each). Before the start of the course you take a test to determine which module you start with. At the end you can take a level A2 to B1 language test.

Wie lange läuft dieses Programm?

The programme starts on 1 September 2015 and ends on 31 December 2019.

How can you take part in a language course?

If you meet the above conditions, you can get in touch with an integration course provider nearby, with refugee counselling centres, with the staff in the shared accommodation or with the regional coordination centre; they will help you find the right contact person near you. To register, please bring your residence document and the official letter regarding benefits under the Benefits for Asylum Seekers Act.

BleibNet proQuali (BpQ)

Labour market integration for refugees in the State of Brandenburg

BleibNet proQuali was launched on 1 July 2015 in the State of Brandenburg. Six responsible bodies at different locations across the State of Brandenburg (including in Potsdam) together make up the state-wide project group which is intended to support the sustained labour market integration of asylum seekers and refugees over the next four years. BleibNet proQuali is supported by the Federal ESF Integration Directive and by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

The project’s target group includes refugees with a temporary residence permit (still in the asylum process), those with a suspension of deportation and those with a full residence permit. In order to effectively utilise the skills and abilities of people who have fled their home countries and to lead the target group to the labour market, the most immediate issue is to support their language learning.

BleibNet proQuali offers help and support with this. Specific assistance:

  • Placement on language courses leading to a recognised certificate facilitating progression (literacy course or refugee language course, integration course or vocationally-related language courses run by the BAMF (Federal Ministry for Migration and Refugees))

In addition:

  • Contact with second chance education providers (acquisition of secondary school certificate)
  • Support in the translation and authentication of references and graduation certificates from the country of origin or in submitting these to the responsible competence centre in Potsdam
  • Help in preparing application documents, strong application documents
  • Support in finding training placements and positions of employment
  • Assistance in contacting companies and arranging internships
  • Help with applications to immigration authorities and employment agencies

BleibNet proQuali works closely with employment agencies and job centres as well as with Chambers, and offers advanced training within the framework of mutual specialist exchange for agencies and job centres on the topics of residence, labour market access and support for the target group.
A key concern of the project group is to open doors as well as structures for asylum seekers and refugees, so that in future they will be able to access official support entirely independently.
