Professional Qualification Official Recognition Service Centre

Aim:

This sub project targets individuals with qualifications for regulated professions acquired outside of Germany who have gone through the recognition process and have not been awarded full equivalence.
The goal is to compensate for any identified discrepancies through personalised support and qualification programmes based on individuals' needs, to help them gain full equivalence.

Background:

The German Federal Recognition Act came into effect in April 2012, and the State of Brandenburg’s Recognition of Foreign Professional Qualifications Act entered into force on 1 January 2014. These laws provide for a process whereby the equivalence of professional qualifications gained outside Germany is assessed and verified independently of individuals' residency status.
In the case of regulated professions, where significant discrepancies are found with regard to the equivalent profession in Germany, the individual is required to adjust his or her qualifications to compensate for such discrepancies and achieve full equivalence. This helps individuals to improve their professional prospects and also helps address skilled worker shortages.

Range of services:

This sub project provides mediation, coordination, and support, working closely with the competent authorities, local educational institutions, and recognition advisory centres. The process begins with the aspects of individuals' qualifications identified by the competent authorities compared with the equivalent professions in Germany.

  • Explanation of the significant differences identified by the authorities in their official notice.
  • Demonstration of qualification paths that will enable individuals to compensate for significant differences compared with equivalent occupations.
  • Information about the scope and sequence of such paths
  • Information about opportunities for funding and financing (SGB II, SGB III, and via IQ funds)
  • Coaching and training in technical terminology
  • Placement in qualification programmes appropriate to individuals' needs (preparation for a proficiency test or training courses)
  • In-depth support and guidance throughout the job training scheme until full equivalence is achieved
